We are now recruiting for an Internal Communications Manager to join BCS on a fixed-term contract, working full-time at our Swindon offices located on key transport links in the town centre.

About the role

The Internal Communications Manager works closely with the Head of HR in developing and implementing the organisation’s overall internal communications strategy.

The Internal Communications Manager is responsible for ensuring effective and timely communication through agreed channels to support the creation of an inclusive environment of shared understanding, keeping employees informed and connected with the work of BCS and our purpose.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the Head of HR with the development and delivery of an agreed internal communication strategy to ensuring our purpose, mission, values, initiatives and news is communicated in a regular, considered, effective and engaging way.

  • Work closely with key stakeholders to deliver agreed communication plans and initiatives and provide communication support for broader projects across the organisation, increasing organisation-wide awareness of business activity and aiding employee connection and understanding of business priorities.

  • Facilitate BCS wide engagement to promote learning about the roles, responsibilities and working practices of different teams.

  • Own and manage the internal communications request process against the agreed internal communications strategy and in line with agreed prioritisation criteria.

  • Co-ordinate and create engaging content for the internal communications channels (Green Room, email, Teams chats, employee events) and regularly evaluate the efficiency of the channels used through a lens of continuous improvement.

  • Provide support and guidance to key stakeholders for writing authentic and engaging comms.

  • Build feedback mechanisms into the internal communications strategy to facilitate staff feedback and support wider Employee Voice activity.

  • Support the Head of HR with business continuity by maintaining a change and crisis communication plan, ready for deployment as necessary.

  • Work closely with Policy & PR to ensure an appropriate synergy and timeliness with external and internal communications, where appropriate.

  • Support the planning and delivery of virtual and in-person all-staff events.

  • Support the Social Club with effective delivery of communications designed to promote social activity and encourage connection across BCS.

  • Conduct regularly reviews and suggest improvements to internal communications processes and channels.

  • Flexibility is required of all job holders to adjust responsibilities as required from time to time by their Line Manager/Divisional Director.

  • Continually looking at ways to make improvements to systems, processes, and procedures.

Who are we looking for?

Education and qualifications
  • Educated to degree or equivalent.
  • Membership of a relevant Professional Body that represents Communications, Marketing or PR professionals.
Experience
  • Demonstrable experience of developing and implementing communications strategies and ensuring their delivery.
  • Demonstrable experience of content writing and delivery using a range of communications techniques and technology including social media and web-based technology.
  • Demonstrable experience of working within multi-faceted, complex strategy and change delivery programmes.
  • Proven track record in implementing successful communication strategies.
Competencies and skills
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent verbal and visual presentation skills – structured to the needs of the audience.
  • Ability to see the big picture, join the dots and respond with relevant plans and deliverables.
  • Ability to think strategically, work cross-organisationally and break down silos.
  • Achieve results and desired outcomes by building positive working relationships with key stakeholders and the deployment of influencing, negotiation and coaching skills.
  • A well organised, self-motivating approach to work, and be able to manage complex and wide-ranging workloads simultaneously.
Knowledge
  • Strong knowledge of communication methods, techniques, and processes.
  • Use of SharePoint as an intranet.
  • Some knowledge of social media platforms.
  • Extensive non-technical knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Basic knowledge of design and recording software, such as Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.
  • Detailed working knowledge of a wide range of communications, marketing and engagement tools, techniques, and media.
Special conditions
  • Some very occasional out-of-hours working may be required, as this role will support business continuity communications in the event of a crisis.
