Crisis, What Crisis?

With information propagating at the speed of a mouse click in this socially connected world, issues can escalate globally and can grow out of all proportion. Without an effective crisis management plan in place, companies can become overwhelmed with the media firestorm that seems to appear from nowhere. Eileen Brown highlights some of the ways that effective crisis management can prevent issues from becoming PR disasters


Eileen Brown is CEO of Amastra and specialises in social media consultancy collaboration and online branding. After spending 10 years in the Merchant Navy as Shell Tankers first female Deck Officer, Eileen managed a fleet of ships in a container shipping company, IT support, then training and management at a training provider in London, technical consultancy, at HP and Manager of the IT Pro Evangelist team at Microsoft.

Eileen helps you achieve your social media strategic goals: to find and engage with customers, identify your influencers and gain advocates for your brand. She works with you to improve satisfaction and perception about your brand and create a vibrant community using Social Media to amplify your message and improve the quality of your connection to your customers.

She is an accomplished and well-known international speaker on Social Media, Online Branding, Web 2.0 and Unified Communications and is a key advocate for the advancement of Women in Technology. She is the author of 'Working The Crowd: Social Media Marketing for Business' which is published by the BCS.

Eileen is a member of the IoD, the BCS, and a fellow of the RSA. She is part of the BCS Strategic panel for Women in IT, sits on the BCS Committee for the Essex region and is the Chair of Intellect Women in Technology Committee.

Mark Wilson


Mark Wilson is a Strategy Consultant at Fujitsu. With more than 16 years' experience of successfully bidding, designing and delivering multi-million pound IT infrastructure projects worldwide, he currently leads the UK and Ireland Office of the CTO's thought leadership activities. Mark is also active in social media and won the Individual IT Professional (Male) award in the 2010 Computer Weekly IT Blog Awards. Mark may be found on Twitter @markwilsonit.

The Internet: What Next?

Over the last 42 years, we’ve seen the Internet evolve from a the world’s first packet switching communications network to the massive infrastructure supporting the world wide web and on to today’s social networks. Mark Wilson doesn’t have a crystal ball, but he will talk about how Fujitsu sees the semantic web and the Internet of things taking us and how the impacts that they may have on our society.
