Branch AGM followed by The New Strategy for BCS - Making IT good for society

Date: Tuesday 2 February 2016

Time: 7.30pm

Location: Room WI-LR13, Wilberforce Building, Hull University, Cottingham Road, Hull, HU6 7RX

Some people are concerned about how IT is becoming increasingly central to everyday life - they want to keep their children safe; they are concerned about privacy; the legal and regulatory areas present difficult challenges; some people are worried about unchecked AI research. This all goes beyond technology to societal impact, ethics and our way of life in general. That's why BCS feel it is important to position ourselves as a powerful force for good, and to keep this in mind with everything we do.

On 2 February 2016 Irene Glendinning, FBCS and member of BCS Membership Board, will present the new BCS Strategy to the Humberside branch. The subject of this meeting should also be of interest to students and other people thinking of joining BCS.

As Irene will explain, the new BCS strategy consists of Three Strategic Pillars: Community, Education and Leadership, you may read more about these on the BCS website at:

Aligned with the three pillars is a series of Campaigns, details of these will be included in the presentation, that are designed to help to deliver the objectives and encourage participation from BCS members and the wider community.

Irene would like to hear from local BCS members and non-members, particularly about how their aspirations align with the new vision for BCS. If you have any questions about what BCS represents, how BCS works or why it is good to be a member, then please join us for this meeting.
