The Internet as an industry today is largely based around using optical transport network has carrier of all types of traffic. The fundamental requirement of what transport networks must do - move an ever-increasing amount of IP traffic from point A to point B - is well understood. Less clear is how, and there is no single solution that fits all networks. The purpose of this lecture is to explain the architecture behind how Optical transport network works and it benefit by using a real-life scenario of a UK based ISP provider’s optical transport network I have worked on.

David AgeituDavid Ageitu is a graduate of Southampton Solent University with BSc in computer system and networks in 2014. Having Demonstratied my passion for technology and determination to succeed, I was employed by Electra networks limited (An IT and Telecommunication company) straight after university as a graduate to manage their in-house IT department

Being with the company for over four years, I have been giving the opportunity to be part of a team delivering IP and transmission related project to clients including delivering some of it myself. I have successfully delivered project ranging from designing an enterprise IP network to migrating existing legacy IP and telecom networks to a newer platform.

Mel MkandlaMel Mkandla studied Computer Systems and Network Management at Solent University between 2010-2014, currently working as a Field Installation and Commissioning Engineer for Telecom Engineering and Management Services on various ISPs. I’m involved with the migration of optical core networks, to cater for the ever-increasing demands of more bandwidth. Fibre Splicing, ILM, RFC, BER Testing, based around the TDM / DWDM technologies.
