Summary of event:

Come to this workshop to learn how to build serverless applications using AWS Lambda. You will learn the basic concepts of AWS Lambda as well as the Serverless framework. Using a simple demo application, you will learn how to configure functions with different event sources, how to write tests and run functions locally, how to deploy your functions into the Cloud and how to set up CI / CD for your project using AWS CodeBuild and CodePipeline.

Note: to make the most of this workshop, participants should have a basic understanding of AWS. They should have, or partner with another participant who has:

  • an AWS account
  • an admin user on the account
  • Node.js 8.x installed on their machine

About the speaker:

Yan Cui is a Principal Engineer at DAZN, the world's first pure-sport live and on-demand streaming service. He is an experienced engineer who has worked with AWS for nearly 10 years. He has been an architect and lead developer in a variety of industries ranging from investment banks and e-commerce to mobile gaming. 

He is an AWS Serverless Hero and has extensive experience working with AWS Lambda in production. He has been very active in sharing his experience and the lessons he has learnt.

He is polyglot in both spoken and programming languages, being fluent in both English and Mandarin, and counting C#, F#, Scala, Node.js and Erlang amongst programming languages that he has worked with professionally.

He is a regular speaker at user groups and conferences internationally, and is also the instructor of Production-Ready Serverless by Manning and a co-author of F# Deep Dives. In his spare time he keeps an active blog at http://theburningmonk.com where he shares his thoughts on topics such as AWS, serverless, functional programming and chaos engineering.
