There are events to which you can go, to find out about the social web, and how it can help public sector organisations, but they can be rather expensive, and pretty formal too.

They are often in London, or one of the other major cities. Are you just one of those who are a bit unsure about this stuff, and who don't feel you can justify a £450 for a conference, or who don't want to spend  two days out of the office just to attend a one day event?

ReadWriteGov is an attempt to get around this issue by organising this informal, half-day event.

The first event is being held at Peterborough City Council, on the 29th October starting at 1.30 and is open to anyone who is interested, with encouragement to local government people to attend, along with folk from other parts of government and the public sector.

Afternoon Agenda:

  1. Coffee/nibbles, networking
  2. Welcome and Introduction from Dave Briggs
  3. Speaker: Dominic Campbell, London Borough of Barnet
  4. Speaker: Steph Gray, Department of Innovation University and Skills
  5. Coffee & Networking
  6. Social Media Workshop session
  7. Goodbyes and next steps.

You can sign up for the event at the Eventbrite page - it's a nominal £25 for public sector folk and £50 for others, to cover the expenses.

Followed by a BCS event for which all are welcome to stay, subject to confirmation of numbers to

  1. Coffee, nibbles & networking - 5:30pm onwards
  2. Social Media Workshop session - 6:30pm
  3. Coffee and networking
