With global esports revenues in 2019 set to reach $1.1 billion (a year on year growth of 26.7%), this is an industry, being driven by a demographic of 16-34 year olds, that simply cannot be ignored. This presentation will give you an introduction to the world of organised, competitive video gaming and the benefits and opportunities it provides, including the explicit links to computer science, STEM subjects and the development of digital skills and digital literacy.

SYNOPSIS
The British Esports Association is the UK’s national body for esports. It is a not-for-profit organisation and was established in 2016 with Government backing to support, promote and raise awareness of esports amongst all stakeholders in the UK. Their focus is on grassroots (amateur) esports and young people until they go to University.

They run the British Esports Championships for schools and colleges which involves weekly online fixtures between school and college teams culminating in live grand finals at the Insomnia Gaming Festival at the NEC in Birmingham over the Easter weekend. Season 1 starts in mid-October and they already have over 160 teams registered to take part.
