  • Onwards from the Prawn Cocktail. Personal observations of Casual Dining - Business Change SG

Sharing his experiences and reflections from working with a restaurant operator, Stephen will use the seemingly-simple customer interaction of ordering a prawn cocktail as the entry point to discussion of the ways in which we can use information from the public-domain to learn about a new business area and keep up-to-date afterwards.

The session, entitled Onwards from the Prawn Cocktail. Personal observations of Casual Dining. An overview from data and processes towards privacy and ethics, will include an overview, from a personal perspective, of the data that the customer provides and receives and the several business systems that support this restaurant meal. Stephen will discuss the ways in which we can become customers within the value chain of products or services. The session will conclude with a review of the ethical issues that are already leading to changes in the restaurant landscape.

SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY

Stephen has been a member of BCS member for over twenty years. He is a business analyst with many years’ experience working in public and private sectors including Hospitality (hotels & restaurants),

Central & Local government and retail businesses. Much of this time has been spent away from a “base office” which has enabled him to appreciate both the customer perspective and the needs of business users.

He observes that the voice of the customer rarely participates in system design but believes that we can adopt aspects of customer expectation - and deliver a form of enlightenment – by looking inwards at our systems and business processes.
