SYNOPSIS
Thirty years ago, following the publication of his book “ICL: A Business & Technical History,”, Martin Campbell-Kelly presented the first CCS seminar. In this seminar he will explain how the book came to be written, describe the historical sources used, and talk about some of the people interviewed.
The company that became ICL started out as “The Tabulator Limited” in 1904. As well as the triumphs, he will describe some of the strategic errors that prevented ICL from fulfilling its potential. Just one year after the book was published ICL was acquired by Fujitsu.

SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY
Martin Campbell-Kelly is Emeritus Professor of computer science at Warwick University. He has written several books about the computer and software industries. He is a trustee of The National Museum of Computing and a member of the editorial board of the Annals of the History of Computing.
