Synopsis

Is Enterprise Architecture Necessary in a Digital, Agile World?

The role of the enterprise architect and the architecture practice has been challenged by the rise of Agile methods, by “no-code” tools promoting citizen / end-user development and by the failure of some architecture methods, frameworks and operating models to stay relevant in a fast-moving digital world. So, what is the role of the enterprise architect and architecture communities in 21st Century IT-centric organisations?

The presentation will attempt to answer this question, along the way giving a perspective on enterprise architecture “anti-patterns”, delving into the history of enterprise architecture to understand the original intent, and offering some views on how enterprise architecture can remain relevant. It will also touch on the presenter’s personal journey as an enterprise architecture practitioner through multiple roles, industries and “waves” of IT industry change.
