Synopsis
In 2021, crypto promised a vision of the new way of finance as it peaked to near $3trillion in market cap but in 2022 the narrative was soured by the collapse of the world’s second-biggest cryptocurrency exchange amid a run on its funds and the controversy over $8billion in customer deposits.
This presentation will explore blockchains and cryptocurrencies through a practical lens exploring the technological innovations that decentralised applications have brought to financial services, but also shed light on the issues and centralisation risk that runs parallel to the lofty promises and ideals the industry espouses.
Eddie Litonjua, Head of Blockchain and Crypto at Vacuumlabs will peel back the jargon and share practical examples of how smart contracts and changes in technology enable a new kind of finance - one without any financial intermediaries.
He will also share in depth about the collapse of some major players in the blockchain and crypto ecosystem and how those propagated the narrative of the 2022 crypto winter.
