Synopsis
Professor Miah will speak about the current state of the eSports industry and its impact on creative computing.
He has worked globally to position esports within conversations about the future integration of digital leisure and physical activity.
He often advises on the future of digital technologies and has been involved with esports documentaries produced by the BBC and with various international media outlets.
Professor Miah’s research takes him to each Olympic Games, where he investigates media change.
Prof Miah has also been interviewed and written for media around the world, including the Washington Post, The Guardian, the Independent, and the Times and he has given over 300 major invited conference presentations over the last decade, at which he is often invited to speak about the future.
About the speaker
Professor Andy Miah (@andymiah) is Chair of Science Communication & Future Media in the School of Science, Engineering, and Environment at the University of Salford, Manchester and is part the Innovate UK funded MediaCity Immersive Technologies Innovation Hub.
As one of the early pioneers of esports research education, Professor Miah is a founding Board member of the British Esports Federation and former adviser to the International Esports Federation.
He is currently a Commission Member for Education, Culture and Youth Commission of the Global Esports Federation and writes broadly about such topics as artificial intelligence, human enhancement, esports, and the metaverse.
Previous roles include providing digital media training for IAAF athletes, social media guidance for Olympic athletes, and mentoring on the International Olympic Committee Young Reporters Programme.
He regularly interviews for a range of major media companies and has appeared in over 300 outlets, including Fortune, Vogue, BBC, and regularly published with The Conversation. Professor Miah is also a member of the College of Experts for the Department of Culture, Media & Sport in the UK Government and Adviser to the World Technology Games.
