Synopsis
This session explores how AI systems pose insider-like risks to organisations. It begins with a definition of traditional insider threats and draws parallels between human insiders and AI, focusing on access, influence and data exposure. Real-world examples highlight how AI can unintentionally leak sensitive information or be exploited for malicious purposes, along with related regulatory concerns under GDPR, DORA and the AI Act. The session concludes with practical mitigation strategies, including access controls, AI monitoring, secure development, and response planning – positioning AI as a critical element in insider threat management.
