Overview of assistive technology at a special school and college and how IT access is enabled using mainstream and bespoke design solutions.

SPEAKER

Hannah Hunt

AGENDA

5.30pm Start of online presentation
6.30pm Estimated Finish of presentation

 SYNOPSIS

Treloar’s is a charity that provides outstanding education, therapy and care to physically disabled young people, and empowers them to live more independent and fulfilling lives. The Assistive Technology team supports students attending the school and college to access technology – from a simple switch press on a customised 3D printed mount to using eye gaze technology to complete classwork.

The presentation will include an overview of the provision at Treloar’s, the different methods and software used by students to access IT and how other factors such as exams access and cyber security impact the access recommendations made.

SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY

Hannah Hunt has spent the past 15 years working at Treloar’s with young people who have physical disabilities, helping them navigate challenges and build independence through technology.

Hannah originally trained as an Occupational Therapist, and later completed an MSc in Assistive Technology to deepen her understanding of how the right tools and inclusive design can enable people to access all areas of independent life. Currently, Hannah manages a team of six who support young people from ages four to twenty-five in accessing and using technology that fits their unique needs.

She loves the constantly evolving nature of this work—every day brings new challenges and chances to think creatively. Seeing how ever-changing technology can empower young people and help them overcome obstacles keeps her inspired.
