Synopsis

Organisations often focus on what AI can do, while overlooking the trust infrastructure required to ensure AI systems operate safely within business and societal contexts. As AI adoption accelerates across industries, the consequences of poorly governed AI systems are becoming increasingly visible: biased decisions, security vulnerabilities, regulatory violations, and erosion of public trust. While AI technology is often seen as the domain of data scientists and engineers, ensuring that AI systems are secure, ethical, and accountable is a broader organisational responsibility. Business Analysts play a critical role in this space.

Positioned at the intersection of business needs, technology, stakeholders, and risk management, Business Analysts are uniquely equipped to identify risks, facilitate ethical decision-making, and embed governance safeguards into AI-enabled initiatives. This talk introduces a practical framework built on three essential pillars: Security, Ethics, and Governance - the core trust infrastructure that enables AI innovation to scale responsibly.

The audience will explore how failures in these areas can lead to cascading consequences, from model manipulation and data breaches to algorithmic bias and regulatory exposure. Through realistic scenarios and collaborative problem solving quizzes, attendees will examine complex dilemmas such as biased algorithms, compromised testing due to deadlines, questionable data sourcing, and data poisoning in critical systems.

This talk emphasises practical techniques which can be used by IT professionals to integrate responsible AI practices throughout the project lifecycle. Participants will leave with actionable frameworks, facilitation approaches, and governance insights that enable them to help their organisations harness the benefits of AI while safeguarding trust, accountability, and societal impact.

Key Takeaways:

  • Understand the foundations of trustworthy AI with a clear framework for analysing AI risks
  • Practical tools for integrating responsible AI practices into projects
  • Improved awareness to facilitate ethical discussions in AI initiatives
  • Confidence in shaping responsible AI with implementable strategies to embed in projects.
