Synopsis
Quality should be everyone's responsibility, but what does that mean in practice?
Drawing on my experience as a software engineer in fintech, I'll explore how shifting testing left enables engineers to take greater ownership of functional correctness through automated testing, while allowing specialist testers to focus on the bigger picture: user journeys, unusual edge cases, accessibility and the overall experience.
I'll discuss how involving testers earlier in design and development helps challenge assumptions, identify risks and prevent defects before they become expensive to fix.
Ultimately, shifting left isn't about transferring testing responsibilities from one role to another. It's about building a culture where engineers and testers collaborate throughout development to deliver better software.
