Synopsis
The Defence Investment Plan (DIP) highlights a changing defence landscape where success now not only depends on advanced technology, but also the innovation from our Defence colleagues. As Defence seeks to strengthen national resilience through accelerated innovation and to build future capability we want to explore how early careers professionals have an increasingly important role to play, and how mentors can empower them to thrive.
Join in our interactive panel discussion, bringing together perspectives from across the Whole Force, including a military regular, a reservist, an industry professional and a seasoned titan of industry. Through candid conversation and audience engagement, the panel will explore how individuals at every stage of their career can contribute to the future and skillset of Defence, whether in uniform or through industry and professional practice. We will be discussing topics including the skills required for the future workforce, the growing importance of digital, cyber and emerging technologies, the value of professional development and continuous learning, and the role of mentoring and sponsorship in supporting career progression. Panellists will also share personal experiences of service, leadership, collaboration and the opportunities available to those starting their careers within the defence community.
Delegates will gain insights into:

- Key skills and competencies needed for future defence careers.
- How military, reserve and industry pathways contribute to national capability.
- The value of mentorship, professional registration and lifelong learning.
- Practical advice for building a meaningful and impactful career in Defence.
Whether you are an apprentice, graduate, student, early careers professional or experienced practitioner supporting the next generation, this session will provide valuable perspectives on developing the people and skills needed to deliver the future ambitions of UK Defence.
