Synopsis
BCS Faculty of Health and Care: LEARNING HEALTH SYSTEM WEBINARS
This exciting programme of engaging webinars is a unique opportunity for healthcare professionals - clinicians, health informaticists, managers, researchers and students - to learn about Learning Health Systems from world-renowned experts. The fact is that most healthcare systems struggle to learn from the wealth of data, research evidence and hard-won experience at their disposal. Yet over the last fifteen years healthcare systems, organisations and teams have begun shifting the dial, developing their ability to learn from the routine care they deliver and improve it as a result. Featuring both local and international speakers, our webinars shine a light on exemplars from around the globe, identifying core principles as well as essential building blocks. Grounded in practical experience, the sessions explore real world examples across different clinical settings. The series also looks to the future – the transformational impact of Learning Health Systems and how we can harness AI.
Webinar 2: LEARNING FROM LEARNING HEALTH SYTEMS AROUND THE GLOBE
Presented by international experts in the field, and shining a light on different models of Learning Health Systems, this second webinar grounds theory in practical experience. An opportunity to learn about real-life case studies from organisations which have taken their own learning health system journey.
About the speakers
Ana Morales is an Associate Professor in the Geisinger Department of Genomic Health, a board-certified genetic counselor, and an implementation scientist focused on translating evidence-based genomic care into routine clinical practice. Her work centers on designing, implementing, and evaluating scalable strategies to improve the delivery of genetic services across health systems. She serves as Principal Investigator of the IMPACT-FH study, which investigates implementation science-based approaches to increase the identification of individuals with familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) while promoting cascade genetic testing in primary care. In addition, she serves as a co-investigator of the CARE-FH study, which evaluates the sustainability of a newly implemented FH screening initiative. Ana is a co-author of the 2026 National Lipid Association Expert Consensus Statement on Familial Hypercholesterolemia, reflecting her commitment to advancing evidence-based approaches for FH identification, genetic evaluation, and family-based care.
Céline Mötteli-Graf is a PhD candidate in the Care and Rehabilitation Sciences programme at the University of Zurich and part of the Swiss Learning Health System cohort. With a background in physiotherapy and several years of clinical experience in musculoskeletal rehabilitation, her research focuses on health services and implementation research in non-communicable diseases. Her PhD investigates the management of knee osteoarthritis in Switzerland, addressing evidence-performance gaps and the alignment of care with clinical guidelines. Her work includes analysing patient care pathways, engaging stakeholders through structured dialogue, developing policy recommendations, and exploring contextual factors that influence guideline implementation. She is particularly interested in strengthening evidence-based conservative care and bridging the gap between research, clinical practice, and health policy to improve healthcare delivery and patient outcomes.
