Synopsis
How do you help someone manage their diet or their diabetes day-to-day, between clinic visits? Large language models alone cannot do this reliably. Agentic AI can: instead of asking a general-purpose LLM to do everything, an agent orchestrates trusted resources, drawing on curated medical knowledge, calling validated analytic models, and grounding its responses in an individual's own health data from wearables and digital health platforms.
This webinar shows how such Conversational Health Agents are built using openCHA, an open-source framework developed at the UCI (University of California, Irvine) Institute for Future Health.
We will walk through working examples, including ChatDiet, which delivers personalised nutrition and food recommendations from an individual's own data, and a knowledge-infused agent for diabetes management that grounds its guidance in curated medical knowledge.
We will close with how attendees can get involved, from contributing to openCHA to co-developing solutions on top of it. https://www.opencha.com
About the speaker
Dr Amir Rahmani is a Professor of Nursing and Computer Science at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), where he also holds the Samueli Endowed Chair of Integrative Health. He serves as the Co-Director of the UCI Institute for Future Health and leads the multidisciplinary HealthSciTech Group at UCI. He is also Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Centralive.
His research spans mHealth, data science, wearable and mobile computing, machine learning and AI, affective computing, bio-signal processing, health informatics, and embedded computing.
Dr Rahmani's contributions have been recognised with the UCI Beall Applied Innovation's inaugural Faculty Innovation Fellowship, the Nokia Foundation's Research Excellence Award, and the European Union's Global Marie Curie Fellowship.
