LU Hack, Lancaster University

Ric Derbyshire and James Boorman, Lancaster University.

Ric and James are PhD students. They run LU Hack with the aim of creating an active hacking community. As some people in the group already have some knowledge whereas others know absolutely nothing, Ric and James created a syllabus to get everyone to the same basic standard. The syllabus is completed in one semester. It begins with explaining ethics such as not to hack real websites! This is followed by teaching all the basics of penetration testing such as privilege escalation. Each week they have a CTF (Capture The Flag) competition with a new challenge.
