Chair Risk, Audit & Finance Committee/ Vice-President Finance, 2026-2029
BCS has around 69,000 members, with growing influence across government and industry. We are a ‘not for profit’ charitable organisation, operating within a Royal Charter, yet with strongly performing business activities. We are seeking to appoint a Chair of Risk, Audit & Finance Committee / Vice – President, Finance to commence the role in March 2025 for a three-year term of office which includes sitting as a non-executive member of the board in the role of Vice President Finance. Candidates should have senior experience in similar sized organisations (turnover >£20M) and be a qualified CCAB (or CIMA) accountant with a strong interest in the technology sector. Experience in risk management, internal audit or investments would benefit candidates.
Candidates must possess skills to analyse proposals and examine their wider consequences, good communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex issues clearly alongside good interpersonal skills.
As Chair of the Risk, Audit and Finance Committee, you must create and manage effective working relationships amongst the Committee, Trustee Board, the Executive and the external auditors. Demonstrating candour, a timely sharing of information and concerns, and working together in the best interests of the Institute.
The appointment does require commitment in time - typically an average of one to two days per month. The Committee meets quarterly (3 remote, 1 in London), the board meets six times a year (a combination of virtual, London and Swindon). The successful candidate would be expected to become an BCS Professional Member (if not already). As a charity role, this is not remunerated. Travel and out-of-pocket expenses will be paid in line with BCS policy.
