  • work in a professional informatics role using data and technology to support health and care delivery
  • perform a range of activities including complex and non-routine tasks
  • understand how your role impacts upon patient care
  • demonstrate quality and integrity in your work

What are the requirements?

  • You're assessed against the criteria set out in the FEDIP standard
  • You need to be a member of a professional body licenced to award FEDIP:
    • BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT
    • Institute of Health Records and Information Management (IHRIM)
    • Chartered Institute of Librarians and Information Professionals (CILIP)
    • Association of Professional Healthcare Analysts (APHA)

How do I apply?

You need to provide written evidence of your knowledge and competence, which we'll assess against the professional competence (P1-P9) and context (C1-C6) criteria set out in the FEDIP standard. Our candidate guidance will help you compile your evidence statements.  

You'll also need a supporter to review your application - they should be working at your level or above, and be able to verify your skills and experience.

Choose your level of registration

Practitioner

Apply for Practitioner if you:

  • exercise autonomy subject to overall guidance and direction
  • perform a range of work, sometimes complex and non-routine
  • select and use relevant methods and procedures
  • demonstrate an analytical and systematic approach to issue resolution

You will need to be a BCS Associate (AMBCS) member.

Do you hold existing professional registration?
If you already hold RITTech registration, you're deemed to meet the P1-P9 professional competence requirements for FEDIP at Practitioner level, and will only be required to provide written evidence against the C1-C6 context criteria in your application.

Senior Practitioner

Apply for Senior Practitioner if you:

  • exercise autonomy within limited parameters and may have responsibility for the work of others
  • perform a range of work, often complex
  • perform non-routine technical / professional activities
  • identify, select and use appropriate standards, methods, tools and applications

You will need to be a BCS Professional (MBCS) member.

Do you hold existing professional registration?
If you already hold IEng registration, you're deemed to meet the P1-P9 professional competence requirements for FEDIP at Senior Practitioner level, and will only be required to provide written evidence against the C1-C6 context criteria in your application.

Advanced Practitioner

Apply for Advanced Practitioner if you:

  • exercise autonomy within broad but well-defined parameters
  • build appropriate and effective business relationships
  • perform a range of complex technical / professional work
  • apply fundamental principles in meeting work requirements
  • advise on methods and tools relevant to your own specialism, making appropriate choices from alternatives

You will need to be a BCS Professional (MBCS) member.

Do you hold existing professional registration?
If you are already chartered, you're deemed to meet the P1-P9 professional competence requirements for FEDIP at Advanced Practitioner level and will only be required to provide written evidence against the C1-C6 context criteria in your application.

Leading Practitioner

Apply for Leading Practitioner if you:

  • exercise autonomy within broad parameters
  • have authority over all aspects of a significant area of work
  • formulate and implement policy and strategy
  • address complex, non-routine organisational problems
  • have a full range of strategic leadership and management skills
  • understand the industry in depth and the wider business implications of emerging technologies

You will need to be a BCS Fellow (FBCS).

Do you hold existing professional registration?
If you are already chartered, you're deemed to meet the P1-P9 professional competence requirements for FEDIP at Leading Practitioner level and will only be required to provide written evidence against the C1-C6 context criteria in your application.
