Speaker:

Arthur Lawrence, C.Eng, FBCS

Details:

The talk will discuss the engraving of sheet music.

Various software packages that exist to produce engraved music will be briefly discussed and the talk will focus on the use of the open source software package “LilyPond”. Some of the practical issues surrounding the data entry to LilyPond and methods of checking that the output is correct will also be addressed. LilyPond could be described as a word-processor for sheet music.

The talk will include a very short introduction to musical notation to help those people who cannot read music to set the context for the talk.
