Synopsis

Digital Forensics 101:

In any cyber security incident, digital forensic investigators use their skills and knowledge to provide a picture of what happened to prevent cybercrimes. In this session, we will learn about the phases of any digital forensic investigation, the areas of digital forensics, the challenges, the forensics techniques and tools by using some examples.

About the speaker

Dr Shahrzad Zargari

Shahrzad has a PhD in Applied Statistics and MSc in Forensic Computing and Security. She has worked in the computer industry and academia for over fifteen years, having gained a great deal of experience in cyber security, forensics and business management. Shahrzad is the course leader in Cyber Security with Forensics at Sheffield Hallam University – she is passionate about digital forensics and security, advocating collaboration (i.e. Government, Industry & Academia), sharing information and educating students. Shahrzad is a member of the YCSC (Yorkshire Cyber Security Cluster) steering committee, which is a community interest company helping to grow the local cyber security ecosystem, supporting everyone with knowledge sharing, skills, innovation and growth. Shahrzad is the advisory board member for the NEBRC (North East Business Resilience Center), which is a non-profit organisation supporting regional businesses with cyber security issues and students to gain work experience during their studies at Sheffield Hallam University. Shahrzad is an experienced researcher (CENTRIC), having published book chapters as well as many papers in conferences, journals and magazines. Her background in applied statistics and data mining allows her to have a unique approach towards digital forensics and cyber security, including intrusion detection. Additionally, Shahrzad is the associate editor of Information Security Journal: A Global Perspective at Taylor & Francis.
