Synopsis
Imagine this scenario: You are greeted with the same headline for the 1000th time – “Company X infiltrated by ransomware pays $5 million to hackers to recover files” or “Company Y data breach exposes health records of 4.5 million patients”.
Your curiosity forces you to read further where you discover that attackers exploited and bypassed basic controls to wreak havoc. The attack vector being a hand-crafted phishing email to an Executive in the Company, or a weak password (such as “12345” or “password”) to gain access to their systems.
You arrive at the conclusion that this whole thing could have been avoided with adequate detection and prevention mechanisms. Now, both Companies are scrambling to fix their networks and systems – their stock prices, along with their reputations, are down.
You want to put an end to this madness. You decide that you to want to become a Cyber Defender capable of protecting and defending against the latest threats and adversaries. Where do you start?
Join me in this beginner-friendly talk to learn more about the skills and responsibilities of a SOC Analyst. We will dive into the knowledge and qualities that a SOC Analyst must possess to ensure that he/she is successful in practice. We will also look at some useful learning resources and tools to complement the journey.
