Synopsis
Join Kunal Deshpande, a data researcher and analyst within the UK Government and alumnus of this university, as he shares his journey from campus to real-world impact.
This session introduces the concept of "Data Therapy" - a framework for thinking about data with judgement, context, and responsibility, particularly when data informs decisions that shape society and public policy.
Key themes explored in the session:
- What is Data Therapy? Understanding data beyond numbers and dashboards.
- Who wins - AI models or common sense? Navigating the balance between automation and human judgement.
- Mind the Gap: Bridging the divide between data analysis and policy decision-making.
- See It. Doubt It. Analyse It. Sorted.
- A practical approach to critical data thinking
Drawing on his experience across multiple government departments, Kunal will offer candid insights into what to prioritise, what to avoid, and how to make the most of your university years to build a meaningful data career. Attendees will leave with a clearer sense of direction, practical takeaways, and a fresh perspective on working with data that truly makes an impact.
The views shared in this session are based on personal experience and reflections as an alumnus of the university.
