The Government has stated many times that UK will be a leader in 5G Technology. It has recently put out a consultation looking for evidence of its effect and implications.

BCS will be responding to this and CMA are organising an event to tell Businesses what 5G might be and collect evidence for our input.

URL for the consultation is https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/5g-call-for-evidence

5G is not a Cellular Mobile upgrade. It has been described as “The perception of infinite bandwidth” i.e. as much as you need whenever and wherever you need it. It will have Low latency and aims for maximum coverage. It will deliver services to IoT sensors sending a few bytes a day up to High speed High resolution Video. Wireless spectrum from a few KHz to over 30GHz.

South Asian Operators are promising to deploy 5G for the Global sports events in 2019 and 2020. What they call 5G and what the rest of the world does might be 2 different things.

As CMA represents Business Telecomms Users we would like to focus on that area rather than the consumer issues and explore what 5G might represent for your business.

We shall cover

  • What 5G looks like being and when the various bits of it might be available.
  • Some examples of Applications and Services already on the way...
    • Automotive
    • Healthcare
    • Critical Infrastructure
    • We shall ask the audience if they see other opportunities for their business. It would be really good to get a few new ones.
    • We shall go through the main points for the response by going through the questions in section 4 and try to capture at the end.

Then Drinks etc. and Networking

Stuart Revell of the 5G innovation Centre in Surrey will be presenting an overview supported by some of the stakeholders already active in the area.
