SYNOPSIS
Information Retrieval has evolved significantly over the past few decades, giving humans access to more content than ever, but as consumers of this knowledge we have not got any better at asking questions or effectively expressing our intent. Search engine technology is becoming open sourced and provided as a commodity.

New techniques, which combine procedural and machine learning programming methods, are improving the experience for the user. This is making the technology simpler to use, with more conversational interaction patterns, and really good personalised, relevant results.

In this talk, we will explore the new techniques and discuss how best to apply them to the task of discovering and distilling scientific research.
