Synopsis

While cyber security practitioners are encouraged to learn about laws and regulations relevant to their activity, which laws should they study and why? This talk will identify a wide array of legal subjects of varying significance to practitioners, describe challenges mapping law and regulation onto cyber security activities, and open a discussion on how to select and present legal topics that are most appropriate to a variety of cyber security career paths.

About the speaker

Robert Carolina is a Senior Visiting Fellow with the Information Security Group at Royal Holloway University of London, where he has taught legal and regulatory aspects of cyber security since 1999.

Robert is also a practicing lawyer who has spent his entire career specialised in the application of law to the use of IT and communications technologies. He is the author of the Law and Regulation Knowledge Area in CyBOK: the Cyber Security Body of Knowledge, a work commissioned by HM Government and available for free at www.cybok.org
