An evening looking at the use and implementation of some popular (and some not so popular) open source compilers.
Watch the video
Synopsis
LLVM is one of the two widely used open source compilers in the world (the other is GCC).
As well as being used directly, its permissive licensing means it is also the engine inside a number of popular proprietary compilers.
This talk will give an overview of the features in LLVM 19.1, scheduled for release in September 2024.
The second talk is a highly compressed introduction to developing your own GCC for a new chip.
At the end the participants will understand how to go about this, with a comprehensive list of resources they can draw on. While GCC and LLVM are dominant in the open source compiler world.
The final talk will give an introduction to some other open source compilers, which are less well known.
At the end participants will have a wider understanding of the open source compiler ecosystem.
