Best Practice for BCS Accreditation visits.

During each accreditation visit, Panel Chairs make a judgement about whether any activities being reviewed by the Panel are identified as examples of best practice. Where examples of best practice are identified, the HEI is invited to complete a single page template providing relevant details. Completion of this template will indicate the HEI’s agreement to the information being disseminated via the Academic Accreditation pages of the BCS website.

HEIs are also free to contact BCS directly should they wish to have other areas of best practice shared with the wider community. In such cases, the HEI will be asked to complete the same template.

BCS may contact the HEI to follow up best practice submissions, for example if it is interested in working with the HEI to publish case studies. This activity is to facilitate the community in sharing best practice.

Areas of Best Practice Identified

At the visit the Accreditation Visit Panel identified the following area of best practice:

  • A working academy which enables students to work on live commercial projects and commissions.

This allows the Department to benchmark the quality of the work completed and the skillset of their students against what industry expects. Within this Academy, industry experts are assigned to each project and lead and inform its progress. This enables the Department to consider the changing needs of industry and to incorporate these where possible into their programmes. The Department is currently undertaking a major project within this Academy and has put together a team of five students to work alongside others from another Department in the parent School to develop the specified product.
