Like it or loathe it social media is here to stay. More and more businesses are using social networks for marketing, recruitment and business development. Some play at it, others embrace it. But what are the risks involved? What are the legal implications when trusting staff to communicate on a mass scale? What does it mean for IT when networks are at risk of attack on a daily basis? From HR to PR, how does external communication help or conflict with business challenges?

Whether you are on board with social media or dipping your toe in for the first time, the need to implement a social media strategy has never been so great. Our first event for 2012, brings together social media and IT security experts, as well as one of the UK’s most influential legal tweeters - in one room for the first time.

An opportunity to hear first hand the risks involved in social media, how to safeguard your data, protect your reputation and implement a safe and practical social media strategy.

Michael helps incorporate Social Media into business. In working to understand business goals, Michael offers clarity and confidence to fully engage with the on-line business community. Michael will highlight how V Social’s approach helps to capitalise on what the business is good at, building on it’s existing collateral and supercharging it’s ability to reach markets and communities.

Simon Wilcox, Marketing Operations Manager, Smoothwall Ltd

A B2B technology marketer - Simon worked across international and domestic manufacturing, software, electronics, imaging and distribution sectors over the last twenty years. Doesn't do Facebook, likes LinkedIn, has yet to see the point of Twitter. Simon will illustrate the tools that can help people to actively manage their organisation's and users web access - so they can create organisational policies that can include social media without banning it outright.

Chris Allen, Managing Partner, Blacks Solicitors

Chris Allen is the Managing Partner of Blacks Solicitors in Leeds. Blacks is a medium sized law firm whose clients are made up from a mix of owner managed businesses and individuals. Chris joined the firm as a newly qualified solicitor in 1994, became an equity partner in 1997 at the age of 29, took on the role of Managing Partner in 2008 and received the award for Managing Partner of the Year at the Yorkshire Lawyer Awards in October 2011.

Chris has used Twitter extensively over the last 2 years to market Blacks and the personnel who make up the firm. The tweets he circulates are based around legal, sporting and local events. Blacks has expanded it's team of "tweeters" over the last 12 months and there is an ever increasing use of Linked In throughout the firm.

Unlike many of their competitors, Chris and his team have embraced social media as an alternative source of communicating with clients and potential clients. The team have a set of basic rules by which to gauge twitter material, but it's not rocket science! He is happy to share them with you.
