Location based mobile applications are extensively used today. This talk will cover a range of aspects of developing Mobile Location Based Applications on the Android platform, including location gathering logic (use of passive, network, GPS and comparison of locations), pitfalls of using the Google API (lack of default geocoding back end on certain phones) and cross API development, ensuring that apps built for Android API 7 - 16 that function and look the same.

Testing practices will be covered, including testing on devices over the emulator, and testing on multiple devices on multiple platforms, as will application download and registration.

Jim Reeves is currently Software Development Manager at Momentech and leader of several software projects, including a KTP project with the Maritime and Technology Faculty of Southampton Solent University .Jim Reeves is a Southampton Solent University graduate with a BSc, 1st class with Honours in Software Engineering.
