Event Details

Fifty years ago, in the very early days of commercial computing, some extremely far-sighted people realised that the need to control the new devices was at least as important as the need to exploit them. In those early days, assurance was deemed as being non-core to computing and indeed was relegated to the back-room of IT developments. Yet these far-sighted people persevered and the BCS’s Auditing By Computer (ABC) specialist group was formed, becoming in turn the Computer Audit Specialist Group (CASG) and eventually the current Information Risk Management and Assurance (IRMA) specialist group. Through their consistent efforts, IT assurance was moved from the back-room to the front-room of IT governance.
This conference will celebrate their achievements. Starting with a brief history to fix the historical context via a quick look back, the day will then predict what we may face in the future. Topics to be covered include:

  • Changes in the control paradigm;
  • Cyber security;
  • Data protection;
  • Risk management;
  • and the legal implications.

Attendance at the conference, which will include our 50th AGM, will be worth 8 CPE hours.
