YPG Networking Event: What can BCS do for you? (inc. Branch AGM)

The South Yorkshire branch of BCS are organising a networking event for students and Young Professionals, to show them how developing their careers alongside BCS will be beneficial for them. There will be a talk by Olivia Tan about how involvement with BCS will be beneficial for students, young professionals and other professionals.

There will also be a few professionals from different organisations from the Organisational Members scheme for BCS, delivering the talk alongside Olivia, providing valuable insights as to how involvement with BCS will benefit their careers, including:

  • Networking opportunities derived from belonging to a professional organisation like BCS.
  • Understanding the links between professional certifications and qualifications, and career progression.
  • Career progression for technical IT roles.
  • Personal experieces, insights and paths in IT from professionals.

We hope this will inspire and encourage students and Young Professionals to become involved with BCS and at the end of the talk we encourage them to share thier questions, experiences and expectations.


Olivia Tan is the Student Engagement Co-ordinator of BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT, and has worked with universities to establish and maintain BCS student chapters at different universities within the UK. Olivia is also a teacher of Computing, ICT, Business Studies and English in Hampshire. She holds a degree in English Literature and has gained a GTP qualification, with exceptional performance in Information Technology (Teaching) from the University of Southampton.

Andrew Seaton is a member of BCS and a Chartered IT Professional, and is the Managing Director of Resolve IT in Sheffield. He has founded Resolve IT in 2004, after graduating from Sheffield Hallam University and has developed the company, winning the Sheffield Business Awards' Young Business Person of the Year in 2009.
