AGM followed by Upgrades - New and evolved game technology

Registration & refreshments at 18:00 with AGM commencing at 18:30, to be followed by presentation by Ian Hughes. Finishing around 20:00.

Joint with the BCS Hampshire Branch, BCS Animation and Games Development SG and Southampton Solent University. This event is free, open to all, but please book if possible through the BCS website, both for BCS members and non-members for arranging refreshments.

Any new nominations for the Chair, Secretary, Treasurer or the BCS AGD SG Committee should be sent to me by the 3 February, with your BCS Grade and membership number, together with those of your Proposer and Seconder.

The AGM agenda will include:

  • Welcome and Introductions
  • Apologies for absence
  • Minutes of the previous AGM
  • Matters arising from the minutes
  • A report from the Chair on the year’s activities
  • A report from the Treasurer, including a review of income and expenditure against the budget agreed with BCS HQ for the past year
  • and an explanation of next year’s budget request.  
  • Election of Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and committee members 
  • Any other business

Notification of items wishing to be raised at the AGM under "Any other business" should be sent to me,  please not less than three days in advance.

The Presentation will include:

  • Taking a look at a range of new and evolved games related technology.
  • Xbox One is it any good after all, whats changed since launch?
  • Oculus Rift, VR miracle or motion sickness inducing?
  • Rocksmith 2014, the best way to learn guitar just got better?
  • Disney Inifinity or the new Skylanders Swapforce
  • Leap motion improves our interaction with computers or does it get in the way?

With several demos of these in action this talk is an exploration of some of the interesting developments in the games and technology world, and how they might all link together.

About Speaker:

Ian Hughes a.k.a epredator when online, is a Metaverse Evangelist and founder of Feeding Edge Ltd - Taking a bite out of technology so you don't have to. 

His current projects are virtual environments to help rehearse hospital related incidents for Imperial College London.

He presented an emerging technology slot on the UK ITV kids show The Cool Stuff Collective as resident super geek, which has ran for 3 series series. On the show he brought many types of technology aimed as gaining the interest of kids and adults alike in science and technology. From open source physical computing to 3d printing, augmented reality to graphene.

Ian is the Chair of the BCS Animation and Games industry Group. If you discover anything else about Ian feel free to update
