Data archiving - Managing the Mountain

Andrew Quinn, Senior Consultant: Infrastructure Technology, Waterstons Ltd. - Business and IT Consultancy

This meeting is free and open to non-BCS members.

As data volumes increase, so do the demands placed on data storage and management infrastructure. Retention and compliance requirements force systems, once designed to manage small volumes of live data, to now store large quantities of historical information as well.

With pressure on existing systems, scalability limitations can lead to performance degradation; and long-term retention requirements conflict with the need for immediate access to current information.

Data archiving solutions promise to address these problems, improving performance and scalability whilst reducing storage costs. Waterstons’ Senior Infrastructure Technology Consultant, Andrew Quinn will investigate the ways in which these solutions can reduce costs and improve service stability. Andrew will also address how these savings compare to the additional complexity and investment required to implement these solutions.
