BCS SPA conference (SPA2009)

Organised by the Software Practice Advancement Specialist Group.

5-8 April 2009.

BCS, 1st Floor, The Davidson Building, 5 Southampton Street, London, WC2E 7HA.

This years BCS SPA conference, SPA2009, takes place soon - 5-8 April, at the BCS London headquarters in Southampton Street.

The SPA conference, and its predecessor OT, have been at the forefront of software practice in the UK for more than 15 years, pioneering the exposure and effective use of object technology, patterns, architecture and agile development to name but four. This year we're covering the usual wide range of subjects, with keynotes from Ian McCaig (CEO of lastminute.com) on innovation in a crisis, and Simon Peyton-Jones (Microsoft) on how testing influences language design and use.

In addition, we have a large and varied programme, covering all aspects of contemporary software practice. Workshops on Haskell, GWT and scalable .NET testing rub shoulders with sessions on effective pairing, coaching self-organising teams, the use of virtual worlds to support software development, and more.

We have an exciting evening programme organised too, with diversions, BOFs, and the chance to meet and talk about the events of the day. On Tuesday we're joining forces with London's Extreme Tuesday Club, one of the world's oldest communities of agile practice, to celebrate ten years of Agile in the UK and to look forward to what the next ten years might bring.

As a member of a London BCS branch, we'd be delighted to see you at some or all of the conference: to that end, and to help us fill the last few places, we're offering London BCS branch members a discount of 20% on the already-low BCS member rate for the conference. Simply use the discount code 09lbr on the registration page.

We look forward to welcoming you to SPA!
