An Intelligent Approach to Risk Assessment

Nick Edwards, MBCS

Today we are all faced with making threat/risk assessments. In order to complete this task as quickly as possible we tend to approach this as a box ticking exercise. I will try to show that we need to take a more intelligent approach drawing on nearly 50 years experience in intelligence and security.

I will draw on experiences we all have from everyday life, from my time in intelligence and security work at GCHQ and CESG, give examples from police experience, aircraft accidents and the banking crisis. I would the opportunity for an open discussion on how we can all do better in future.
