The Kanban method for managing software development is based on five simple but very powerful ideas:

  • Visualise workflow
  • Limit work in process
  • Measure and manage flow
  • Make the process policies explicit
  • Continually improve the system

Although these ideas appear to be simple at first glance, the Kanban method offers powerful tools and guidance, especially for teams who have to balance a difficult variety of work and encounter a challenging culture.

One efficient ways to experience the ideas and mechanics of Kanban is to take part in a real life simulation. The getKanban board game is a fun and engaging way to simulate software development, with an accelerated and realistic simulation of working days.

This hands-on workshop will take the delegates through the quick play scenario of the getKanban game. Each team will collaborate to agree on a strategy and make day-to-day decisions.

You'll get a first-hand experience of the visual tools, charts, and metrics that make Kanban a powerful and effective management for software development.

Kanban is an increasingly popular method believed to be an effective vehicle for traditional companies trying to adopt Agile practices.

There will be a brief introduction before we start and a discussion afterwards. The game needs no prior experience of Kanban.
