Details:

While the amount of data available to operational Oil & Gas organisations is increasing, a range of issues such as maturing fields, ageing assets, cost inflation, increasing scrutiny and loss of technical knowledge conspiring to make life in the oil & gas sector more difficult, it is becoming more of a challenge to utilise this to increase operational effectiveness.

Leaders in the field should be using industry analytics, recently described as ‘the new oil’. By converging “trusted” data available from their operations with information from corporate IT, they are able to make better operational decisions in near/real-time. Against this backdrop, a range of technology trends have become clear:

  • Advanced Analytics & Modelling – enabling prediction
  • IT / OT Convergence giving the best of both
  • Near/Real-time prediction of events
  • Mobile enablement of information
  • Linking Analytics outputs to Workflow

The digital oilfield is a practical option in the foreseeable future, the practicality lies in the ease of integration and the need for it to be business outcome/user driven. The opportunity for advanced analytics is in its infancy and will require the advanced analytical capabilities of global standards such as R to be used in real time for both prediction and dynamic targeting.
