Title 1: Potential Problem Data Tagging: Augmenting information systems with the capability to deal with inaccuracies

Speaker: Dr Philip Woodall, University of Cambridge

Synopsis:

Data quality “tags” are a means of informing decision makers about the quality of the data they use within information systems. Unfortunately, these tags have not been successfully adopted because of the expense of maintaining them. This presentation will demonstrate an alternative approach that achieves improved decision making without the costly overheads. 

Dr Philip Woodall is a Senior Research Associate at the University of Cambridge specialising in industrial data management.

His particular research interest is data quality, data sharing and data value. He has extensive experience working with international public and private organisations from various sectors, including transport, utilities, defence, public sector, manufacturing, and aerospace, to improve their data management practices. Philip worked previously in the software industry and gained his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Keele University.

Title 2: Decision Support Tool performance management

Speaker: Susan Lattanzio, University of Bath

Synopsis:

Decision Support Tools (DSTs) are extensively used within infrastructure Asset Management (AM) to support optimal asset choice, maintenance and replacement. However despite the significant financial impact of the decisions made, the performance of the DSTs often receive little attention after implementation. Within this presentation you will hear about research conducted by University of Bath in partnership with National Grid. The result of this collaboration is a systematic, risk-based approach to maintaining the performance of DSTs which aligns with the International Standard for Asset Management, ISO 55000: 2014.

Susan Lattanzio is a doctorate researcher from the University of Bath. She is part of a cross-disciplinary research team working in the area of physical asset management. Her current research has been sponsored under an iCASE award and is funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and National Grid.
